special seeds
Special Seeds is a program to welcome and serve children with special needs at the Vineyard Church of the Rockies. It is designed to help children with special needs participate comfortably in our children’s ministry, the Vineyard Seed Company.
how does special seeds work?
Families complete a Special Seeds Questionnaire that gives us detailed information regarding their child’s needs. After a family interview, the child is matched with a volunteer “buddy” who will help him or her participate in children’s ministry activities.
how are volunteers screened?
Each and every Vineyard Seed Company children’s ministry volunteer must submit to a background check and reference checks. They also go through an interview process before being approved. In addition, Special Seeds buddies are given specific training for working with children who have special needs.
what ages of children are served?
Each child is served on an individual basis as he or she is matched with the right volunteer buddy.
how do I volunteer?
Your volunteer adventure begins when you complete a Vineyard Seed Company application form. Application forms are available at the Information Desk and at the Children’s Sign-In Desk (both in the main lobby). Once your application has been reviewed and your background check has been completed, you will be contacted by one of our Special Seeds Coordinators to set up a personal interview. After your application has been approved, you will be given the training and information needed to be a Special Seeds buddy.
how do I enroll my child?
First, complete a Special Seeds Questionnaire – available at the Children’s Sign-In Desk in the main lobby. Once we receive your completed questionnaire, our Family Coordinator will contact you to set up an interview. Your family will be asked to attend a specific service regularly so that we can match your child with a consistent buddy.
A notebook listing important information for the Vineyard Seed Company staff, including your child’s history and diagnosis, will be completed.
This notebook will also contain your child’s Individual Spiritual Plan – a goal sheet created by your family for your child.
The Special Seeds leaders will look for the volunteer who is uniquely qualified to be your child’s Special Seeds buddy.
